about

The setting to this song was inspired by a walk to Passenham, a village by the river near to my home in Stony Stratford. In Autumn, in the early evening, the mists swirl, fall and meander through the willows that line the river.
As the light fades, you just know there are ghosts...

The lyrics are based on a news item I heard some years ago.
Two families were opposed to their teenagers marrying young, and were sending them away to continue their education in separate towns. The parents insisted that if this was true love, it would survive the years they'd be apart. After a heated family meeting, the young lovers were later found drowned in the local river; a note pinned to their clothes said that they would now be together forever. in death.
Sometimes we make the most terrible choices for our young people.

(Thank-you Ian Entwistle for providing the superbly evocative, atmospheric fiddle-playing on this track.....)
